Customized job board for nonprofit sector set to launch

Whether you’re hiring or trying to be hired, a powerful new job platform may help you make the right match. Based on a model developed in 1998 for the insurance industry, CharityWorldWorks is about to launch in Canada.

Janet Gadeski photoLike most online job boards, CharityWorldWorks is free for job seekers. Seekers can create anonymous profiles with information about education, professional designations, experience, capabilities and preferred location and job type. Employers can contact anonymous seekers through the site, and the seekers can choose whether or not to identify themselves in order to pursue the conversation.  Named profiles include contact information and multiple resumes matched to specific job types.

Those core services will always be free, promises CharityWorldWorks president Michelle Straka. That’s true of participation in the site’s job seeker community as well, where seekers can read and blog about job hunting, catch up on sector news, and participate in giveaways and other contests. A paid upgraded service will turn candidates’ resumes into featured resumes in a process similar to Google’s ads.

A portion of profits to charity

Each year, the enterprise will donate a portion of its profits to a charity chosen with input from its job seeker community. That reflects a key difference that Straka has already noticed about doing business in the nonprofit sector.

“People identify very much with the cause they serve,” she observes. “It’s more than just a job, just an employer, to them. They are very connected and very aware of what’s going on within the sector.”

Custom, personal service for employers

The site offers a deep range of services for employers, ranging from a one-off listing of a single post plus access to appropriate resumes, to a year-long package that includes unlimited listings and resume access along with custom-tailored employer microsites.

When asked what makes CharityWorldWorks unique, Straka points to the live, customized service available from staff members with HR expertise. They will help clients write job descriptions and postings if necessary, walk them through the process of uploading job postings, and demonstrate the site to new clients during orientation.

At publication time, the home page for CharityWorld Works featured a simple registration page inviting seekers to “Pre-Register your account to get a head start.” Those curious about how it might operate can explore another of its creations, InsuranceWorks. That site claims to have listings for over 600 jobs, more than 36,000 job seeker profiles, and over 2,500 participating employers and recruiters.
